Juan Carlos Izpisúa Belmonte, PhD in Biochemistry and Pharmacology from the Universities of Bologna and Valencia, has postdoctoral at the University of Marburg and the European Molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL) in Heidelberg. Since 1993 works in the Gene Expression Laboratory at the Salk Institute in California and runs a prestigious center for work performed with the zebrafish animal model. He has received several awards for his great career as the National Science Foundation Creativity Award (1999), the American Heart Association Established Investigation Award (2000) or the Medal of the Spanish College of Pharmacy (2006) and is part of the Scientific Advisory Editorial several international journals. He is Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the

biotech company Biobide. Since 2004 the director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona (CMRB). His main areas of research are part of developmental biology, cellular reprogramming and regeneration of organs and tissues.
